How it works

TicTag requires no tool, no installation, no account. It is based on a very simple principle: add a keyword in the body of your email to indicate from the moment of sending how long it is useful.

How it works in 3 steps

Tag, receive, delete. That's all.

1

Tag the email when sending

When you write an email, you add a TicTag tag in the body or signature. The tag is a simple copy-paste text. It works everywhere, without configuration.

The tag contains:

  • A duration identifier — TicTag1Y, TicTag3Y or TicTag5Y — indicating the lifespan of the email (1 year, 3 years or 5 years).
  • A link to tictag.green/info — to explain the concept to the recipient.

The wording must be used as is, without modification, so that tags remain searchable and standardised.

2

The recipient receives a dated email

They know at a glance that this email can be deleted in 1 year, 3 years or 5 years. No more hesitation.

3

Delete emails that have become useless — whenever you choose

Search for TicTag1Y, TicTag3Y or TicTag5Y in your inbox. Filter those whose duration has expired. Delete them all at once.

No need to re-read each message. No need to hesitate. The lifespan was indicated from the start.

Of course, it's your choice. TicTag deletes nothing automatically — everyone remains free to keep or delete their emails.

TicTag at scale

The idea makes most sense for all transactional emails — order confirmations, delivery notifications, validation codes, newsletters... Added to a template once, a single TicTag tag is enough to date millions of emails in one go.

You can set up TicTag yourself by adding the tags to your existing templates, free of charge and without any third-party tool. How to tag?

As this tagging process can be time-consuming, we can help you tag your emails correctly. Request an audit

A universal system, without technology

TicTag works with all mail clients, all platforms, all devices. No plugin, no API, no account. Just a text you copy-paste.

The recipient immediately understands that the email has a limited lifespan. And when that duration has passed, a simple search is enough to find and delete expired emails.

What TicTag does... and doesn't do

TicTag is a common-sense tool, not software. Here is what it does and what it doesn't claim to do.

TicTag allows you to:

  • Facilitate sorting of obsolete emails
  • Reduce unnecessary storage on servers
  • Raise awareness of the environmental impact of digital technology

TicTag does not:

  • It deletes nothing automatically
  • It collects no data
  • Tags are purely indicative and can be ignored
